I don’t remember my very first bowl of oatmeal, but I do remember when I fell in love with it. I was 26 years old and we (oatmeal) and I were about to take our relationship to the next level. I was going to prepare my own and not eat the pre-packaged ones my mom had brought me up on.

I had read a health book and they recommended oatmeal mixed with yogurt to help boost a woman’s calcium for the day. Now, bear in mind that this was 1996, so this kind of info was a little cutting edge.

Also bear in mind we didn’t have Greek yogurt back then. Well, maybe we did, but no one ate it but Greeks. My bowl of oats, instead, was mixed with a small tub of fat-free (again, that’s what we ate back then… ugh), sugar-filled, fruit-on-the-bottom yogurt, and from the first bite I was hooked.

However, I hated getting up earlier than I needed to make the damn stuff. So, I prepped a big batch of oats on Sunday and my love affair with Sunday prep also began.

Flash forward 19 years later (wait a minute, you can’t flash forward 19 years. A lot of sh*t has happened in 19 years! But, alas this is a food blog, not an autobiography), and I am now developing my own oatmeal recipes and sharing them with people.
