If you know me then you know that I am in love with… my husband, my dog and my TRX.

In that order too.

Or at least until I can teach the TRX how to vacuum 🙂  Hehe, just joking.

However, that would be super cool if my TRX could vacuum. Just saying if the makers of TRX are reading.

Anyways, the reason I love the TRX so much is that it makes your body do all the stabilizing. This, in turn, makes more muscles work.

And more muscles working makes me VERY happy.

TRX’s motto is “Make your body the machine”, and that’s just what this workout does.

For 50-minutes we power through 15 exercises, for three rounds.

It is sweaty, awesome fun!

This workout is a:

20-minute low impact cardio workout

20-minute upper body and abs workout

43 minutes of fitness fun

Loving husband is back with me, moaning and groaning his way through the whole thing.

It’s pretty funny.

 What doesn’t kill you

I am a big believer in pushing your limits (loving husband would be my yin to my yang).

This is how we see change in the body. And that, my friend, is why most of us workout.

With that said I urge you to ensure you are using a heavy enough dumbbell for this workout (and for that matter for all of your workouts), so that you are truly challenging yourself.

This principle applies no matter what fitness level you are at.

Because to see change we must challenge ourselves.

Non-stop cardio that you can do at home. A great weight loss workout.

Cardio is always something I have hated to do.

This hasn’t been from lack of trying to love it, though.

Through the years I have competed in 10km runs, half marathons, triathlons and bike races, yet 22 years later I’m still not a fan.

There’s a couple of reasons cardio doesn’t have my heart.

First, I don’t like spending a long time on any one thing. It bores the hell out of me! (With the exception of hiking. I can hike for hours, and maybe that’s because it’s so much fun dragging loving husband up and down mountains.)

I am also adverse to being in large groups of people. I love exercise for it’s solo-ness (Don’t get me going about having participated in the Vancouver Sun Run. The most crowded run on the planet, if not the galaxy, and where you need to train in the art of defense first, then running.).

However,  I do love getting my heart rate up and I love to sweat.

So… through the years I perfected a variety of home cardio workouts that keep my attention, while also improving my fitness – and workouts that don’t leave me with any damn saddle sores (damn you bike seat!).

A 20-minute cardio workout you can do in your living room – with absolutely no jumping! 

“You look like a spaz!”. Was the first thing to leave my lips when I turned around and saw how loving husband was interpreting my squat and hamstring curl combo.

I wasn’t being mean. It was just the honest truth.

He was doing some weird and funky things with his arms, he was barely bending his knees and his squat, well, it just looked super awkward and hard on his knees.

But… he tries and he must really love me to come on each week to workout and be mocked (slightly) by yours truly.

So bless his big spastic heart.

This 20-minute skipping rope circuit workout is the BOMB!

For 50 seconds an exercise we rotate through 10 exercises alternating between a skipping drill and a lower body or a core drill.

After the 20-minutes is up we finish off with a nice stretch and you get to end your workout all sweaty and happy.

Skipping Rope Facts

  • Jumping rope burns more than 10 calories a minute
  • The effort it takes to jump rope for 10 minutes is the equilvalent of running a mile in eight minutes
  • Skipping is a full body workout. You use your core to stabilize, your legs and glutes for jumping and your arms and shoulders to turn the rope
  • You can burn 200 calories in two 10-minute skipping sessions
  • Skipping is less jolting on the joints than running
  • Jumping rope is a weight-bearing exercise, so it can help improve bone density and stave off osteoporosis
  • Skipping helps improve your heart rate and blood pressure
  • Skipping also aids your coordination and balance

My 20-Minute Toning Cardio Workout for Home is perfect for on vacation, as well as any time you are travelling and don’t have any access to equipment.

I added a lot of core moves into this one too, so if you are desiring stronger abs this is a great toning cardio workout for you.

The sad news is I am all by myself for this workout. Loving husband was not feeling well so I did not have the heart to drag him along. I must admit, though, I missed him.

What exactly is a “toning cardio workout”, you might be wondering?

Well, basically it’s a workout where we are going to build some strength as well as build your heart and lungs. I have used a lot of body weight moves that will challenge the muscles enough to stimulate some growth (good news!) and at a pace that will keep the heart rate up.

Burn more fat by doing this workout first thing in the morning, before you eat.

By performing cardio in a “fasted” state research is now indicating that we will hit our fat stores faster. You see instead of using the carbs from our food to help motor us through our cardio, we will use our pesky fat stores instead.
